Talbot Hotel, Malton

We were approached by Sir Philip Naylor-Leyland, of the Malton Estate, to produce hand-sculpted half-round moulded resin letters for the two elevations for the Talbot Hotel in Malton, North Yorkshire.

These were then gilded in 23.5 carat goldleaf and individually positioned on the rough stonework with trough lighting above, giving an elegant and traditional appearance to this new establishment.

The letters are 50cm and 60cm in height and individually fitted via threaded bar fixings in the back of each letter that are then inserted into holes drilled into the stonework of the building and secured with chemical bondings.

The next two photographs show different views of the work, allowing you to see the craftsmanship involved in creating the individual prototype letters, which were manufactured in our own studio.

The client was delighted with the results.

Gold Leaf Gilding

Being asked to undertake the traditional goldleaf gilding at the Tower of London Crown Jewels House has been a tremendous accolade for Brian The Brush, especially during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee year. Even after more than forty years as one of the UK's leading experts in the traditional art of gold leaf gilding we feel projects don't come much bigger than that. However, we are always delighted to undertake all types and sizes of gilding projects, from the smallest honours board to the biggest monument, and consistently produce work of the highest quality.

Brian and his team regularly travel throughout the UK undertaking all types of gilding projects, including reverse glass gilding, decorative and achitectural gilding. We invite you to browse through our Gilding gallery and see some of the most recent works we have carried out. If we can assist you by providing a quotation for your project please do not hestiate to ask.
