Goldleaf cockerel, Manchester

Working on this 1m high cockerel, cut from stainless steel, involved us sandblasting the metal surface in order to secure a good 'keying' of the paint, which can sometimes be a problem when trying to coat stainless steel.

We then powder coated the areas to be gilded in yellow before applying extra thick 23.5 carat goldleaf to both sides of the cockerel, which will be positioned on a church spire in Manchester.

Having over 40 years experience in the fine art of goldleaf gilding, we are proficient in all types of architectural and decorative gilding.

Gold Leaf Gilding

Being asked to undertake the traditional goldleaf gilding at the Tower of London Crown Jewels House has been a tremendous accolade for Brian The Brush, especially during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee year. Even after more than forty years as one of the UK's leading experts in the traditional art of gold leaf gilding we feel projects don't come much bigger than that. However, we are always delighted to undertake all types and sizes of gilding projects, from the smallest honours board to the biggest monument, and consistently produce work of the highest quality.

Brian and his team regularly travel throughout the UK undertaking all types of gilding projects, including reverse glass gilding, decorative and achitectural gilding. We invite you to browse through our Gilding gallery and see some of the most recent works we have carried out. If we can assist you by providing a quotation for your project please do not hestiate to ask.
