Another project undertaken on behalf of Marks & Spencer was the painting, gilding and signwriting of a unit at the place where it all started for them, one simple market stall in the Kirkgate Market, Leeds.

In recognition of the era in which that first market stall was established our clients wanted this new heritage unit to be adorned and signed in the style of that period. Not a problem for Brian the Brush Ltd, one of the very few companies still able to recreate this traditional image. We can honestly say that very little has changed since those days in terms of the art of traditional signwriting, all that is needed is a very skilled and experienced individual with a keen eye, a good set of brushes and an interest in local history!

Our painters worked day and night when undertaking the repainting of the unit to help meet the tight timescale set by the clients. The traditional handpainted signwriting was then undertaken using the finest materials, including 23.25ct goldleaf on all four sides of the unit, in a lettering style chosen by the company to reflect their history.

The project was completed on time and within budget and the client was absolutely delighted with the results. The official opening of the Marks & Spencer heritage unit was featured on local television news and we must say…..it looked superb!
