Just as a demonstration of quite how far we are prepared to travel to carry out a project for our clients we are proud to say we undertook a large honours board project for Royal Dornoch Golf Club way up in the Scottish highlands.

This project was a challenge in that all of the honours boards at Royal Dornoch Golf Club were a mixture of the work of various signwriters over the years and consequently had several different styles of lettering all done in accordance with the skills and abilities of each individual signwriter. However, being one of the most prestigious competitive golf clubs in the world, the Club required a more professional appearance to their suite of honours boards. Brian the Brush is one of the few gilders remaining in the UK who has the capability to undertake this project.

The work involved sanding-off more than 100 existing names from the various honours boards, re-staining the wood to match the original colour of each individual board allowing for the ageing process of the stain and varnish. When all of the boards were restored in colour Brian then continued with the signwriting/gilding of all the names he had removed and added additional names, which made a 115 names and dates in total. It was then impossible to tell that the original names had been removed and replaced. Brian did however gild all of the details in the same style as the existing headings on the boards. In total the project took ten days to complete and the Club were delighted with the results.
There is no substitute for experience on this calibre of project and the Club have invited Brian back this Autumn to add the new honours to the boards.
